How to fix Disney Plus not working

9 fixes, easiest first3 min readUpdated November 2026

Quick fix

Close the Disney+ app and open it again, then restart your TV or streaming device. If it still fails, power-cycle your modem and router, then check for app and system updates.

What it means

When Disney+ won't open, keeps loading or stops playing, the cause is usually the app, the streaming device or the home internet. Closing and restarting things, signing out and back in, and updating the app fix most cases. If an error code appears, it points to the cause and is worth writing down.

Common causes

  • A temporary glitch in the Disney+ app or streaming device
  • The home internet has dropped or is too slow
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal where the TV sits
  • An out-of-date Disney+ app or device software
  • Old or damaged data stored by the app
  • A Disney+ service problem

How to fix it

Work down the list. Each fix is safe to try before moving on to the next.

01Check whether Disney+ is having a problemEasy

  1. Open another app on the same TV, such as YouTube or Netflix. If it also fails, the problem is your internet.
  2. Try Disney+ on a phone or computer. If it works there, the problem is with the TV or streaming device.
  3. If Disney+ fails on every device, check the official Disney+ Help Center or Disney+'s official social media accounts for news of an outage.

Why it helps: It shows quickly whether to wait or to fix something at home.

02Close the Disney+ app and open it againEasy

  1. Google TV: go to Settings > Apps, select Disney+, choose Force stop and select OK.
  2. Apple TV: press the TV button twice quickly, move to Disney+ and swipe up on the clickpad or touch surface.
  3. Phone: close the app completely from the app switcher, then reopen it.
  4. Fire TV, Roku and smart TVs: restart the device (next fix) to fully close the app.

Why it helps: A stuck app often works again once it is fully closed.

03Restart your TV or streaming deviceEasy

  1. Roku: go to Settings > System > Power > System restart, or unplug the Roku for at least 10 seconds.
  2. Fire TV: hold Select and Play/Pause together for about 5 seconds. If it's frozen, unplug it for 60 seconds.
  3. Smart TV or other device: turn it off, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in.
  4. Open Disney+ and try again.

Why it helps: A full restart clears temporary glitches that the remote's power button does not.

04Restart your modem or routerEasy

  1. Unplug the modem or router from power.
  2. Wait about 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and wait until it has reconnected to the internet.
  4. Try Disney+ again.

Why it helps: Restarting the home network fixes most dropped or slow connections.

05Improve the Wi-Fi signal at the TVEasy

  1. Keep the router fairly close to the TV, with as few walls in between as possible.
  2. Disconnect devices you aren't using; many devices on the network at once can slow streaming.
  3. Roku: check the signal at Settings > Network > Check connection. Fire TV: go to Settings > Network and press Play/Pause.
  4. Pause downloads and other streams in the home while you test.

Why it helps: A weak signal causes buffering, poor picture and loading errors.

06Update the Disney+ app and device softwareEasy

  1. Roku: press Home, then go to Settings > System > Software update > Check Now. App updates install with it.
  2. Fire TV: go to Settings > My Fire TV > About (or Device & Software > About) and select Check for System Update.
  3. Google TV: open Google Play Store, select your profile picture, then Manage apps & games > Updates > Update all.
  4. Phones and other TVs: update Disney+ from the device's app store and install any system update.

Why it helps: Updates fix known bugs that stop the app from loading or playing.

07Clear the Disney+ app's cacheMedium

  1. Fire TV: go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select Disney+ and choose Clear Cache.
  2. If that doesn't help, choose Clear Data on the same screen. This signs you out, so have your login ready.
  3. Other devices: you can usually clear an app's cache and data in the device's settings menu. Not every device offers this.
  4. Restart the device and open Disney+ again.

Why it helps: Clearing stored app data removes old or damaged files that stop Disney+ loading.

08Log the device out of Disney+ and back inEasy

  1. On a phone or computer, open DisneyPlus.com in a web browser and log in.
  2. Select your Profile, then Account.
  3. Under Access & Security, select Manage Devices.
  4. Select Log Out next to the TV or device that isn't working.
  5. On that device, open Disney+ and log back in with your MyDisney email and password.

Why it helps: Logging the device out and back in refreshes your account details on it.

09Uninstall and reinstall Disney+MediumResets settings

  1. Try this last. Reinstalling signs you out of Disney+ on that device, and any titles downloaded on a phone or tablet are removed with the app.
  2. Roku: press Home, highlight Disney+, press the Star button and select Remove app, then add it again from the Roku Streaming Store.
  3. On Roku, if Remove app isn't offered, you may be billed for Disney+ through Roku. Skip this step rather than cancelling your subscription.
  4. Other devices: uninstall Disney+ from the device's app settings and install it again from its app store.
  5. Sign in again and try playing a show.

Why it helps: A fresh install replaces app files that may be damaged.

Check it's fixed

  • Disney+ opens and a show starts playing without an error.
  • Video plays for several minutes without stopping to buffer.
  • Disney+ opens normally the next time you turn on the TV.

When to get help

If Disney+ still fails on one device but works elsewhere, contact the device maker. If it fails everywhere, contact Disney+ through its official Help Center. Many websites list fake Disney+ phone numbers; only use contact options found on Disney+'s own help site.

Questions

Is Disney Plus down right now?

If other apps work and Disney+ works on your phone, the problem is your TV or streaming device. If it fails everywhere, check the Disney+ Help Center or Disney+'s official social media accounts.

What does a Disney Plus error code mean?

Write the code down and search for it in the official Disney+ Help Center, which has a page for each common code. For example, error 42 says Disney+ is having trouble connecting to your internet, and error 75 says you are streaming on the maximum number of devices.

Why does Disney Plus work on my phone but not my TV?

Your account is fine, so the problem is with the TV, the streaming device or its Wi-Fi signal. Restart the device, update the app and check the connection at the TV.

Can I watch Hulu in the Disney+ app?

Yes. Disney said in May 2026 that Hulu-only subscribers can sign in to Disney+ with their MyDisney login to stream Hulu shows, and that bundle subscribers can link their Hulu profile to Disney+. Hulu Live TV stays in the Hulu app for now.
